The roach delema; Sell off or keep?

Just when I thought Lucky wouldn't eat roaches anymore...he did. As of yesterday, he hadn't eaten a roach in a year. So... I put an add up to sell my "prize reserve" colony (smallish dubia colony kept inside on seed warming mat and fed fresh fruits and veggies as a gut load). I have not fed any adult roaches to Lucky ever, just the nymphs.
As he is fully grown (2 1/2 yrs. now) and quite a "big boy" for a veiled, I gave it a try. When I offered him a smallish, calcium dusted, adult male; WHAM, he took it right out of my hand! My staple feeders are crickets with superworms and hornworms on the side. I chock it up to upping his horn worm allotment (Lucky's favorite)to 3-4 per week. I think it spurred his appetite and perhaps, he believed he was striking at a hornworm? I'm not going to push it, but I will offer another well gutloaded male tomorrow. Any thoughts on this behavior? Should I hold on to the colony? Was it just a fluke? It may just be that he's never had an opportunity to "catch" a winged male before, but...?

It may be he likes the wings, my male always preferred the adult males because of the fluttery wings when he was being pickier.

Well...I was holding the wings when he shot at it this am. I'll try holding the abdomen tomorrow am and if he takes it, I'll report back.

OK. I guess I'll hang on to the dubia. Lucky took another male adult this am. I've got to get a picture,

And adult males provide plenty of food with just 2-3 then you do the worms afterward to encourage just a bit more usually, unless you are on a weight control or loss diet. You want to keep your adult males on a relatively low end to the females as you likely know. I can easily go as low as one male to every 5-7 females and still be fine... right now my females are way over that and my males are way too much outweighed
