Hey everyone! I was wondering if any of you ha watched the bbc series The HUman Planet. If you have, what are your favourite parts?

I have to say one of my favourites is the honey guide bird. I find it amazing that this bird has a call for communicating with humans, different to the one it uses to communicate with the other birds! I also find it amazing that the bird can source honey and understands that that's what the people are looking for!

If you haven't seen it, basically the humans make a call and one bird will answer and start to fly and land and wait for the people to follow. The bird does this and leads them to a bee hive, chirping all the way, so that they can get honey. The people have to leave a bit of beehive filled with grubs as a reward for the bird. If they don't, legend says that the next time they call to the bird it will lead them to a lions den.

I have to wonder how long ago this started and how it came about? I am totally fascinated with the connection that these tribal people have with the earth and the animals

Silkworms are on the other end of the spectrum. They have been domesticated for so long that they became extinct in the wild and lost all their natural defense mechanisms. They solely depend on humans now with 0 wild specimen.

I have not. But the boyfriend had bbc's "Life", and we watched that one. It had some really interesting creatures. There was this little animal who would try and make itself look like this giant bug, and act like it - to avoid predators.

Yes sadly a lot of living things become extinct in the wild. I even feel that the human race is a bit extinct! Like I watch these people surviving on their own instinct while we are slaves to society and wouldn't last 5 minutes if we were not domesticated.

These people take from nature but give so much back while all we do is destroy the planet. Even from toddler age these folks are connecting with nature and catching what they eat yet they have so much respect for the planet and don't even make the smallest carbon footprint.

If you like that series you would live human planet I love the nature shows, it's amazing what there's tiny creatures can do!

Was the mimic octopus on that show? It's truly amazing, same idea he mimics various poisonous sea creatures and changes his shape and the way he moves so that nothing will attack him.

It might have been, i remember other animals that had the same evasive technique.

Human planet was well cool. I think I might have been smoking while I watched it. The last of the series had this massive tree house. My favourite bit of the series. That honey guide bird was cool too, first episode I think?

That tree house was insane! And they just had the little toddlers roaming around the edges, no safety ropes or anything! Then they lit a fire up there! I just about had a heart attack
