The great crestie cage build

Or maybe more "time consuming" than "great." I've been at this for days!

I decided it was time that each of my cresties had their own cage, and decided that it was cheaper to build my own than buying them online. So here are some photos of what it looks like so far. My landlord builds stuff all the time so he made fun of my very basic carpentry skills lol.

Here my loyal assistant, Mina, decided she should stand in as a size reference. The cages are 26" H x 15" D x 16" W.

This is what the cages looked like with the bottom and back. The top and two sides will be screen and the front will be plastic.

Six cages done! At least, the frames are done. I have gone in with silicone and started sealing the inside corners. Tomorrow I will give it a couple coats of sealant to make it as waterproof as possible.

I'll add more tomorrow when I actually have stuff painted.

Thanks!
Hopefully! Depends how long we ave to wait while the paint and sealer dry. And then when the door and mesh are attached, we'll let it air out a couple days before we introduce the geckos.

That is awesome work, I love to build and design. ;)

Love the pooch in the first pic, my kinda dog!

Thanks! Well, it was more like one and a half days. It took us a while to figure out an efficient method of drilling hole for the screws.

Here's an update. I painted them (I like the color of the wood, so I'm going to leave the interior its natural color) and sealed the inside. I still need to go back and retouch some of the corners in silicone when the sealer dries.

They look lovely! I would certainly buy cages that looked like that (with the glass of course! :p)

Thank you! Lol yea, a cage without sides is pretty useless! I'm hoping that the sealant is dry enough tonight so that we can staple on the screen and install the acrylic doors :D And then tuesday or wednesday the geckos can move in!

Finished one cage! Woo! Stapling on the mesh was a pain in the butt, we didn't think it was going to be so tricky lol. Tomorrow we'll do a couple more. The entire front is one big piece of transparent plastic acting as a door. I really wanted cages I could look into without looking through screen. Now we're just going to let them air out a couple days before putting the geckos in there.
