The Diary of a Chameleon Owner

Treat it like a diary, about your chameleon only.

Make entries how ever often you wish.

Example: funny things that happened, cute things ur cham did today, illness scares or problems incountered, new feeders tried/results, tips tricks about care or feeding u discovered.

I'll leave the first entry to whomever!

Rent day, which means feeders dusted with Herptivite instead of Calcium Plus... High excitement today. Also my hawkmoths hatched (from a batch of excessively large hornworms) but I'm not sure if they are too big for Ivy. Pretty sure she could eat them no problem, but they look meaty and if guts came out I'd actually DIE.

Tried to feed a bee today, got a freaked out Monty from the buzzing as a result. Lol. Mealworms are pupating. Going to buy hornworms for the first time soon, also silkies, and convince mom to let me buy roaches. When people call my buddy "a lizard" or as my sister puts it "your stupid lizard" I want to slap them. No one except fellow cham lovers gets that they are your friends. They are nicer than people. My father threatened to take my cham anyway for good, he was dead serious, because we fought. I treat Monty with more respect than for people because he's nicer. My dad thinks it's bad I like animals more than people. My siblings treat me worse than my pets. Of course. So I treat then as if they are less than animals. That says a lot considering some people treat animals like crap. I love chams a lot but I should love my family more. Just because I don't care for them as much as a chameleon doesn't mean I don't love them. If that makes sense..

I'm babystting my neighbors today ages 8 and 10, and they love my chameleon so I decided to let them hand feed him his mealworms. They were so excited when they saw his tounge extend out and take the worm from their hands! Jumping up and down and screaming excited...Now they want to come over everyday and hand feed him :D

One of my very first "journal entries" reads:

"Rango POOPED...it was dark brown with white urates"...and I added a BIG smiley face too!

Now that THAT excitement has passed (no pun) there are a lot of "normal day" comments.

That's an excellent step! Feels so.good eh?!

Today frankie looked gloomy so i waved a hornworm and he went Bannanas! Then his urates are absolutly snow white since hornworms were introduced. So over all I've been having an excellent cham time lately :)

It was awesome thank you :) its a shame it was her first vet visit too lol!

Glad your dude is well hydrated! We can't get horns in the uk but the silks do wonders for hydration too!

"Illness scares" what are those??? lol

Few weeks ago frankie pooped an undigested cricket with blood.. scared the hell out of me.. got the fecal tested came up clean, and has been nothing but active strong and perfect for about 3 weeks now! Illness scare!

last night, i got a new plant.. got home, cleaned, repotted, and brought my little 2 month old Amy out. hand fed her some dubias and let her crawl around the apartment. she went on to the plant that's right next to the patio (screen door closed but glass door open). She lit up with some crazy cool colors! it was the first time i've seen her like this so it was really cool. she had just finished shedding for the first time since i've had her. i let her run around for a couple hours, she seemed fascinated with my screen door and spent most of the time on that thing.. after a couple hours, i brought her back into her cage.

went to continue working on my chainmail that i'm making and when it was bed time for her, i went in to the room and was looking all over the cage for her.. couldn't find her.. then all of a sudden, i felt her run across my foot.. scared the hell outta me! that's the first time she's gotten out.. i don't have the tools to cut a hole in the top of the cage for the dripper so i've just had it going through the door and leaving a little section open because of the dripper's tube.. fixed that issue after i put her back in the cage.. don't want to accidentally step on her or anything...

Took my buddy out today. He was trying to be tough... I saw that his gum infection was coming back. Time to go back to peroxide.

It sunny again, so I took my girl outside. Sun was high and she literally lay down on my hand to get as much sun as possible. That was so cute :)

Bought HUGE silkies for my 7.5 month old Veiled yesterday. He had no problem swallowing them. It was strange.... He's eaten 4 and he has a slight gum infection. He ate them and this morning the part on the side of his mouth was gone. They were gut loaded with fresh mulberry leaves. Does any one think mulberry leaves might be a natural antibiotic? The part on the side of his mouth was being caused by the infect btw. I didn't get a look in mouth to see if it was better inside too.

i took Amy outside for about an hour and a half yesterday. she RAN around the entire yard and tried to get in every tree she could.. i'm not terribly comfortable with her running into the bushes or trees because she's still really small and i'm afraid i'll lose her.. but i have an extra plant that i occasionally switch in and out of the cage and i brought that out for her to have the "tree" feeling without going into those other trees :p she looked like she loved it! a fly decided it was going to be a good idea to land on one of the leaves next to her... yeah... that wasn't a good idea for the fly.. not a second or two after it landed, she snatched that little sucker right out of the air. it was a beautiful sight hahah :)
