temps not warm enough

hello all

i recently just purchased a complete setup. i just got the cage in yesterday and set it all up. im waiting to get the little guy till i can make sure my temps and everything is up to par. ive got a 100 watt zoomed daylight blue basking lamp and its set about 1 inch off of the top of the cage. i have a temp gauge a few inches from the top of the cage on the wall and so far the highest ive seen it was just about 85 and the bottom of the cage was around the 70s. its a full screen enclosure as well.

any help as to what can help raise temps a few degrees maybe around 90ish. and maybe a few tips for a new guy?

thanks,
ellrrz

what are you getting and how old? I would just use a white housebulb instead of the blue. Well, does the blue shine really blue or white? I know the red bulbs look entirely red. If the bulb is shining blue I would take that back and use an ordinary white housebulb. Cheap and works just as well and looks more like sunlight.

What kind of cham are you getting?
if its a juvi or baby veiled or panther (the most common types here) 90 will be too hot for them.
as Carol said, if the bulb shines blue, return it.
a cheap white (or clear which is what i use) housebulb will be more beneficial, as it will produce a more natural visual spectrum, which is good mentally.

(all better Olimpia?) ;) ;) :D

Not just work fine but be more beneficial! A normal white-light bulb will produce a more natural visual spectrum, which is good mentally.

thanks for the feed back im going to be getting an ambilobe panther, hes going to be pretty young about 3.5-4 months old. from what ive read they like 85-95. the blue bulb does not shine a blue color, looks like a normal bulb while turned on. i actually got the temps to about 90 around the basking area, but that was with putting up cardboard on the cage sides and still have 2 open panels. im assuming that is ok for ventilation?

and ill see if i can get a few pictures of how the cage is set up, and get a few tips from the pros out there haha

90 will be ok. Kammers(one of our site sponsors and a respectable breeder) recommend even basking them higher than that. Alot of members bask theirs lower, but 90 is not going to kill him. If you see him opening his mouth while basking, then he is too hot.
