Temps in Madagascar now vs. keeping Panthers outdoors.

Recently I've been talking to a few other chameleon keepers here on the east coast about keeping Panthers outdoors in the summer. There is a lot of worry about the extreme summer temps here of 94-100 degrees. The humidity here on the east coast is extreme. Right now it is close to 90 percent.

So, I started looking at the weather over in Madagascar.

Do we really need to worry that much? Especially, if we are watering every two hours for 5-10 mins during the heat of the day?

I think the worry is more just a precaution. Look at their rain fall. It's almost always raining. So keeping them at 90 ish shouldn't be a problem, but forget to water them once and you may end up with a dead Cham.

Very true.

It'd be a good idea to get a garden hose spray head which had an option for 'mist'. Mine has a mister setting and I just leave it on over my outdoor cage when I have animals out there. It really helps because although it shoots out cold, it is quickly brought up to a comfortable temperature in the sun.

Temps here on an average summer day is about 27C-33C (80-90F)

Just a side note; thanks for posting that website. I'd not checked it out before and was really surprised by how many different cities they have data for in Maddy. What a great resource! As for the topic, I don't live in Florida but I would worry about that much ambient heat without a large, densely planted enclosure where they could get down in dark wetness if they had to.

That just seems like common sense to me. :p Seriously that should be a requirement.

I do know there are breeders here who do keep them outside most of the yr. Heck once you get below Orlando, you can pretty much keep them outside yr round with a few exceptions.

Gotta love Florida Weather
