Temperature?

This is my third post about my recently purchased chameleon.
Right now, he's in a 36 x 18 x 16 glass cage with a screened lid.
I'm ordering a 24 x 24 x 48 cage that is all screened.

But for now.. I just checked the temperature (10:37pm in Illinois), and it is at 75 degrees F. The lights are off. No infrared. Nothing.

The temperature in my house is also about 75 degrees, so I'm assuming that is why.

So my first question: Is that too hot for him at night?

Second: If so, what can I do to cool it down?

Thanks guys!

This is a young jackson, right? In which case, I believe a lower night temp would be preferrable. 75 is almost warm enough to be suitable as a basking day time temp.

Turn down the heat
turn up the Air conditioner
open a window
fans (not directly blowing at chameleon)
move the cage to a cooler room (where I live, the basement is always cooler)

why the move to an all screen cage? Wont that be harder to keep up the humidity in? Jackson like higher humidity.

I posted a picture of him on a different thread. I was told he looks almost a year old.
His basking spot is usually between 80 and 85 degrees.

And everyone on here has been telling me to switch to a screen cage asap.
I'm very new to this whole thing so I wouldn't know.
As for the humidity, I have a cool vapor humidifier with a hose running to the screen lid of the cage. It runs for fifteen minutes every hour. It does a good job of keeping the cage at the right humidity level.

not everyone LOL

Screen is great if your house temperature and humidity matches closely what the chameleon needs. Enclosures with more solid walls are better at retaining heat and humidity / keeping out the outside environment. Some ventilation ports/ air flow is still needed, usually created naturally from the basking light because when the warmed air rises, it draws up cooler air from low placed vents. There are no rules about what makes the best cage. What matters is keeping the conditions within that cage correct for the chameleon.

Currently, yours is too hot at night.
