Temperature?

I know what the temps have to be in basking and in rest of cage but in a big enclosure how can you keep the ambient air temperature in the place you want without making a too hot basking spot

your ambient temps are almost always going to be lower than your basking temps, thats part of the point of basking. your ambient temps are going to closely follow the temps of the room the cage is in, the basking temps are a little hot zone within. if your basking zone is too hot, then lower the wattage, or increase the distance. if you have enough cages, basking lamps can increase the room temp, but its not likely that a 75-80* room temp is going to raise the temp of a 85* basking spot. thats part of the reason i always recomend using the minimum amount of wattage that will achieve your desired basking temp. basking temps should remain fairly stable, but that can be hard to do in the case of extreme heat (say 90* room temp) if you have temps like that it means that you have sun and if you have ample sun you should be more concerned with getting your cham some real sun time as opposed to artificial basking. (with proper available shade of course) jmo
