Temperature Questions

Ok..so as you all know im about to move my guy outdoors but I just have a few questions before I make the change. I actually thought the change would be easy, but it seems like I have to start all over for this new cage.
Anyway, since Im having a bigger and longer cage I have a question about temperature. Should my temperature gradient be horizontal or can it be vertical. Like should it be the top layer of the cage the hot side and as you go towards the ground its gradually gets colder or can I, as i planned, section the cage off from left to right with a hot 90F bask-no vegetaion side (right) a cold-high humidity-high vegetation (mid) and a medium- with about 70F bask (left). Anyway, this question has been killin me for a few days now so hopefully you guys can shed some light.

I think as long as you have height in the enclosure it doesn't matter.
My choice would be similar to your original one.
Hot spot high on one side gradually cooler the further you move away from it.
