Temp not right

Are you talking the basking temp or the ambient temp?
10 inches seems like a long ways up... I personally keep my lamps straight on my screens.. With yours being 10 inches you could easily lower it down quite a ways and still have it be off the screen.
The thing is.. the higher you have it, the more the light spreads out which makes the heat not get so hot in that one spot.

What is the ambient temp in the room?
I imagine its quite cold?
What are you using to measure these temps?
A 150w bulb will cook a chameleon! I would be careful with that.

We let it sit a little longer and it jumped way up, I think the thermometer took awhile to adjust to get it right. Now it's too hot so we are going to try the 75w.

Yes... You have to let it run for awhile before you can get the correct temps. I usually let mine go for atleast an hour before i change bulbs or decide to leave it

Also, if you are using an analoge gauge, do yourself and the chameleon a favor and ditch it.
I hate them
They are very inacurate at best, a digital acurite can be bought at any hardware store or walmart.
