Tail or jugular...

Very interesting Lynda. Both of my reptile vets, Alfonso and Mader have always used the tail in my chameleons. I see Dr. Mader was mentioned in this artical. Even thought he wrote the books that most vets use that try to work on Reptiles he often still does things differently in his hospital. I once ask him why and he said he learns new and better ways all the time through experience.

Thanks @kinyonga .

The downside to a jugular blood draw is that sometimes the vet can tear the jugular vein and bleed the animal out. Even the best vets can. I lost one quad to my vet nicking the jugular vein when giving sub cutaneous fluids. I was not happy. My friend, a research vet explained that these mistakes happen, even to the very best vets. Most vets try to avoid the jugular except in really big animals like horses.
