I have been thinking about what lights to get for my chameleon cage. It is 24x24x48. I could go out and spend between 40 and 80 bucks on a new 2 ft t5 fixture with either 2 or 4 bulbs. We will be moving soon so any money saved is good.
In my basement I have two 4 ft HO t5 set-ups that already have the plant bulbs in them from another project. Each set up is an 8 bulb set up but I can switch it to only run 4 lamps at a time or even have them on different timers.
With the whole thing running were talking about 454 watts of light! I plan on putting it so that one half hangs over my cham cage and the other is open but I can put my other house plants that are not good for the cham under them so I am not wasting the light. I think with 8 bulbs running the light should produce enough heat by its self for basking and I just need to get a uvb bulb for it.
Is it going to be too much light to run all 8 bulbs? Is this a bad idea for other reasons? Thanks for your help! Jake.
