T5 good or bad?

Hello. I have mostly everything I need for my panther chameleon but I have not ordered anything when it comes to lighting. I will be having a 24x24x48 cage. Can T5 have negative effects on chameleons? Which is better...T5 or t8? Does the age of the chameleon matter when to use T5? I read that T5 may bother young chameleons. I was thinking with the big cage a T5 would be helpful. From what I have read the I would get the reptisun 5.0 in either T5 or t8 unless anyone has a better idea.

I wouldn't hesitate getting a T5 fixture. They're much better than T8 as they produce more light, and use less energy. I have never heard anything about it bothering young chameleons, on the contrary, it's better than the coiled UVB bulbs. If you have a 1 or 2 bulb fixture, then yes get a Reptisun 5.0. If you have a Quad, you would want to get a 10.0 as some of the UVB is lost among the "radiation" of all the other bulbs.

I use a variety of T5's from 5.0s to Arcadia 12s and would recommend them over a T8 or coil. Recently have been moving towards using the Arcadia's for everything, mainly because they last longer.

I use Arcadia T5 12%, even for babies (making sure the babies have a place to regulate their UVB exposure).
