So I am part of the Tarantula keeping hobby, I currently have two G. Pulchra juveniles and hope to have another three soon... the issue is I don't like talking to most other Tarantula keepers on forums because they become very very aggressive when anything different is asked (and you all know me I have a very different approach at things since EVERYTHING even inverts are individuals). But I honestly feel completely unwelcome on most Tarantula forums, because anything that is asked differently and not taken as gospel when spouted from their mouths... causes that thread to be aggressively picked apart. Which surprises me since far less is known about Tarantula's and keeping them even than chameleons. Apparently wanting to give my T's a larger enclosure when they are adults is frowned upon because they aren't display animals and it takes up more "space".... I am like, i don't care o_O Also the way I plan to breed the G. Pulchra is frowned upon by most keepers but most of those who have succesfully bred them fully support it and are surprised I thought of it since I have never kept T's before.... I want to ask the other people why they are against it if they have never bred G. Pulchra ever.

It makes me confrontational.. which isn't good because I could make a lot of enemies, just for them being assholes.

Since you mention that, i remember on multiple occasions googling something and being lead to a T forum. People were quick to attack over the smallest thing. One I remember was someone persistently bashing any attempt at even mentioning feeding hissers, ever, because of their high fat content.

XD dude i would feed a hissers to a female any day especially if I was going to breed her. Try to avoid her eating the male which Grammostola species are known for doing. Honestly high fat content isn't an issue. It's like with chams, knowing how to adjust feeders and feeding for what you are feeding at the time. I do love how people feed mealworms and supers to them like it's going out of style though XD

They feed supers/mws to tarantulas a lot? Honestly I haven't kept any serious land inverts other than stuff I caught outside as a kid. Have you kept any scorpions or crabs? If why I always thought the claws were really cool. Mantis are pretty sweet too. I'd like to get more in the invert world in the years to come. I really like my Halloween hisser bio set up currently.

I was in the hermit crab keeping community for like 3-4 years and I got really heavy into it. They are amazing. But much more complicated than people realize. I have kept some various brackish water crabs. Not done scorps and don't plan to, but I do plan to get some Damon, whiptail spiders and maybe a vinegaroon? I have kept multiple species of mantids. I would love to get an orchid variety and am looking into some of the more communal species. But if I kept orchids mantids I would likely dabble in breeding them.... i would likely need to get some mini orchids to house them on in an enclosure I would love it.

What you need to do is educate the people. Lots of people attack when something is not exactly how they think it should be! It might take a while, but reason and logic will win some of the people. Others are just not able to think enough to be able to change their minds!

I will likely have to do it when I am less of a newbie with T's and actually succeed with how I plan to keep them.

Well, ok! My advice still stands But I guess maybe it is better to know, before you tell others how to do it. Lol

The sad thing is I think there are a lot of different ways to take care of Tarantula's just like there are for every other animal. And no one knows enough about T's to make assumptions to say this is 100%. T's are survivors, and honestly in my opinion the way most people keep them is giving them enough to survive and the general conditions otherwise of not having predators etc makes them thrive. But when do we know for sure what we personally are doing is making them thrive? Not just the fact they are out of the wild and aren't stressed?

But it's thinking like this and asking these questions that gets me picked apart XD

I love that kind of thinking @Andee in all subjects. Gets me in trouble all the time lol. What I don't like about T's is people keep them in tinyyyy little containers.

I don't like it either, so what if they don't use the ENTIRE enclosure all the time... doesn't mean it goes to waste, as long as they have the option then it's worth it in my opinion.

I just can't listen to the two of you any more! What is wrong with you? Both of you sound like reasonable people, and yet you expect to get along with those narrow minded people? Sorry but they just can't expand that far out!!!
