I have a 7 month old male Jackson and the side of his face is a little swollen. Does anyone know what it could be

there,s a little paperclip icon at the top of the box when you are typing. It's next to the siley face :)

start a reply, click the paper clip in the utility tray, browse your computer. add, then close window, click paper clip again and click insert attachments.

Jax are prone to temporal gland infections and can end up with abscesses under the skin of the face. The temporal gland is located at the corners of their mouth in the gum. If an infection in the gum, inside the mouth or in the temporal gland isn't treated the abscess can spread and swell.

Ya that's what it is. It's right in the corner. How do I treat it. The swelling is going down. Is it something to worry about

Any swelling is something to worry about. Without pictures it's hard for any of us to say how much you should worry about it, but swelling is never a good thing. It would be safest to see a vet as soon as you can. This message board is pretty magical, but there are limits.

Temporal gland infections tend to recur and they can be hard to cure. Can you look closely at his mouth and gum by getting him to gape at all? If you are not seeing any redness or patches of pale cheesy stuff on the surface or around the gland, it could be he's fighting it off. I read years ago that you can help prevent these infections by adding more vitamin C to your feeder gutloads. Your cham can benefit too. Give your feeders some fresh citrus like oranges.

I'm having trouble getting him to open his mouth for me. What is a good at home treatment for it. He hasn't been eating I don't think
