My chameleon is 1 year old and today when he was out I noticed one of his back foot/toe area seemed swollen. He is acting and eating completely normal. He does like to crawl on the side of his cage. I’m wondering if this is an injury or something else. I don’t know what to do. Anything is helpful.

No idea what that is from. I’d say keep an eye on it for a day or so. If it doesn’t look better or gets worse, you’ll need a vet visit. If it’s something like gout or infection, only veterinary intervention will fix it.

Thank you! I’ll keep an eye on it. He did escape his cage the other day due to a latch coming loose and I wonder if he somehow injured it then. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him at all so for now I’ll just watch itHi and welcome.

Looks like it might be infected....but it could be gout too as @MissSkittles said.

Reptiles feel pain, but may not exhibit/show it like humans or other animals, which can complicate things for us caretakers.

Abes, has he shed recently? Is there anything abnormal/discolored/swollen on the palm/sole of that foot (where we cannot see)? If he screen-climbs the walls might be the best time to see or take pics.

Area in orange looks very much to me like the area in red, which is why I'm wondering if they might just be stuck shed. BICBW.
Looks like all the claws are intact and not discolored, which is good.
Seeing a herp vet is prudent.

Thanks so much for the help. I’ll try to get another picture if I see him on the screen. Today it actually looks a little better. He had recently shed and today the shed on his foot seems to be going away. Hopefully we keep going in the right direction!
