This is a bizarre one and I have to ask if anyone has experienced or heard about anything like it. I have lots of silkworm eggs in my big fridge and also a small almost novelty sized fridge. Looking for some viable eggs this morning (the ones I took out a couple of weeks ago weren’t) and oh! My! Goodness! I found the entire batch of zebra silkies from July that was in the novelty fridge were hatching already! What? I didn’t think to check the temp of the fridge but it had ice inside it and was cool to my hand. Had I not picked today to get eggs to hatch, they would have all died. It was just luck that I found them before they died. How can cold silkworm eggs be hatching? I’m dumb-founded.
The fridge the eggs were in.
This is only about half of the eggs. There’s a second container.
They are adorable. No idea why I love baby silkies, but I do and they make me happy.
