Supplements for Jacksons?

I recently purchased a male jackson's chameleon and he is doing very well so far. The only part of their care I am a little confused by is their supplementation schedule. People seem to have very varied opinions online and it is hard to come down to a solid supplementation schedule for him. I have been feeding him 3 feeders daily (crickets and waxworms) without any powder supplements. Once every week or two i will dust two of his feeders with repti calcium without d3. Then every 3 weeks I will give him a couple feeders with d3, and monthly I will give him his reptivite multivitamin. I know that jacksons are much more sensitive to supplementation, so if anyone could give me specific instructions on what schedule I should use that would be very helpful. It would be great to know how many feeders I should dust and how often I should dust them. Also, what is best to gut load your feeders with? currently, I am just using those citrus cubes for my crickets and feeding my waxworms spinach, apples and honey.

Citrus cubes are crap. Wax worms are not a good daily feeder. Try dubia, silks, and super worms.Cricket Crack or Bug Burger are both good gut loads
Thanks for the reply :) didn't realize I was messing up so much. I will start gutloading my feeders with a more nutritional food ASAP, and hopefully I can get some dubias and silkworms too. This is my first cham so any and all advice you have for me is appreciated.

Proper supplementation will be found in the article I linked above. Since jacksons are a montane species, they require different care compared to the more commonly owned Veiled or Panther chameleon. All in all you will need three main supplements for any chameleon. Plain calcium, calcium with D3, and a multivitamin.

Youll want to dust all feeders with plain calcium 3 times per week, dust calcium with D3 once per month, and dust a multivitamin once per month as well.

He is most likely a young jacksons if you just bought him so I would feed between 10-12 small roaches or crickets each feeding and a little less if you feed superworms.

Here is our resource page which has numerous articles that go into different aspects of chameleon care. I always suggest new keepers to read through them since they have helped me out when I first started and always find myself using them as reference.

Good luck!
