Supplementing and sun...

Hey guys and dolls, here is a multi-part question:

1. How much do I need to supplement if my cham gets a healthy dose of natural sunlight? Right now I'm dusting with calcium and a sprinkle of dinofuel.

2. My cham is outside under a canopy. As the sun crosses the sky he gets direct sunlight and lots of shade. How much UVB can be absorbed while in the shade? I read where UVB can still be absorbed on cloudy days so I am curious to know if he is getting enough UVB.

Please and thank you!

If he's outdoors year round and your feeders are well gutloaded, I would supplement very sparingly with plain calcium. No D3. Consider that wild chams don't spend all their time in direct sun either. They would bask in the morning or periodically if it's cooler, but they are not exposed to constant full sun.

My chameleon spends way more time outdoors than in. I rarely supplement with d3 because I feel he is getting it everyday with the sun.

Very little D3 supplementation should be used for chameleons housed outdoors where they can produce what they need naturally. Providing a little now and then doesnt hurt, if you are concerned

mine have a place to bask in direct sun from a window on their free range set up, so i supplement with d3 very occationally (maybe once every three months)

this is how much mine get from just after sun rise to about 2 in the day..

I've watched this video b4! Way cool!

Thank yall for the replies! What I'm reading is to still dust but WITHOUT D3. Will he still need the vitamin and what do y'all think about me dusting with the dinofuel??

what do y'all think about me dusting with the dinofuel??

I think it is awesome!!!;) I dust w/ DinoFuel nearly everyday and I feed the insects, beardies, and veileds DinoFuel on rinsed veggies every single feeding. I even inject it into thawed mice for snakes. Due to the DinoFuel, I feel I need to supplement much less. Vegans would pay top dollar for a DinoFuel Smoothy. lol

If there is glass between the chameleon and the sunlight/UVB it won't be getting the good of the UVB/sunight.
