Hello! I am trying to switch up my chameleons diet because he is refusing to eat crickets. I was going to change his staple food to superworms with hornworms and silkworms (when they become available). Are superworms alright to feed as the main part of the chameleons diet?
How long has he been on a cricket strike? My panther will go on a 24 hr cricket strike sometimes, if I feed him superworms more than once a week . After his strike, he reigns terror on any cricket in his domain . I read mixed opinions on superworms as a staple feeder, some say its fine some say they're too fatty. I do believe they're a bit fatty, so I stick to worms as a treat.
Supers are ok, and can be gutloaded like crickets. Yes, they are fatty so you don't want to feed them in too much quantity on a daily basis. Always try and mix up their diet as much as possible with hard and soft bodied feeders..
I agree with Carol they can be gutloaded. I like to use bug burger with my supers along with the usual vegs. But they are definitely not a good staple. Try to ween him off of supers. Superworms have a small stomach so it's hard to keep them gutloaded. Hope it helps.
