anyone use this product (most prob be guys from the U.K). I'm from London, England and looking for a mister but not looking to spend sayover £100-£150

There isn't much info out there on the web. And you probably know this already. One thing you can do to find out if it is a quality pump is to see the internals, and see what the sound and vibration levels are like. Loud and heavy vibration pumps are more than likely to have high heat production. This of course is a fire hazard. one more thing that you can due is the run the pump dry for about 5 to 10 min and feel the casing. Ideally it should still be cool to the touch.

The herpmist pump stays cool to the touch even after running for 30 min dry.

I hope that helps keep us informed on what you find.

Well I would love to experiment but don't want to be wasting my money in the long run lol.

That's pretty horrible advice, as with a lot of the cheaper misting systems, after 5 minutes dry, if you don't have a fire, you have a very expensive brick.

This is what you need to ask them, you want something with a diaphragm pump. All the quality products currently out there use an Aquatec brand Diaphragm pump. In a true diaphragm pump, the liquid is not used as a cooling agent or as lubrication.

You want a diaphragm pump as chequepoint has stated. The types of pumps that should not be run dry are using a piston. They can't run for long even when water is present. They are loud as hell and just don't work well.

I don't think I will run any of them dry what so ever as I wouldn't want to burn them out etc or cause damage to something I paid good money for.

I am not saying you will run it dry. But if something happened and you couldn't get water to the pump for whatever reason. The pump has the ability to burn your house down. I am not trying to scare you out of the cheap pumps, but they have a pretty bad rap for a reason.

Say you're on vacation, because while we choose to automate things like lights and water specifically for when we go away for a few days.. they always go to crap when you're on vacation.

So you're on vacation... and your timer fails.. now it could either fail in the off position, or the on. Since you're on vacation it will fail in the on position, pumping all the water out of your bucket, and then continue to run dry. Add a cheap pump to that and you come home to charcoal.

I eventually got out of the aquarium hobby because of this vacation effect. The tank would run beautifully, fully automated.. lights, feeding, top off water, etc. It could run for 2 weeks without me even having to look at it.. until I went on vacation. If i was out of town for 3 days something would fail and usually in the most disastrous way possible. Never had a single problem when I was home. Mind boggling.

Automating is just a way to make things easier for us as keepers.

If my husband and I go away, which is rare :(, we always have someone come visit our house a few times throughout the day to make sure things are going well. We haven't left for more than 6 hours at a time since Christmas last year and at that time we had a good friend stop by and check everything every day for the 1-1/2 days we were gone. I am absolutely beside myself and stressed out when being away for even half a day. I have visions of our house in a pile of smoldering embers.

We're going to automate our greenhouse in the next couple of months with Kevin's help.:) He did some research and found a pump for home use on wells that can't run dry.

Hey easy everyone, what I mean is have the store open one up and run it in the store. Ask questions. I don't mean to buy one take it home and experiment there.

If you are unable to satisfy your curiosity there or the store is not going to help you answer your questions, I think that would answer your question of whether you would want to buy one.

Sorry for the mix up....

I understand what you guys are saying. If I was to order that specific one off of the net I wouldn't have a chance to experiment until it arrived at my door step etc. That is why I was asking about it for reviews etc lol. Thanks for all the help guys.
