Summer= dead feeders in the mail!!

Well, it's that time of year again!
Just received an order of 1000 superworms, all DEAD!!

I know the box was in the shade, on my pourch for an hour or so, and the weather forcast lied! they said high of 84F, but it actually when up to 90!!

Since they sent it via USPS Priority, I never know the exact day it will be delivered because USPS "tracking" is utterly worthless.

So, I ordered more supers. And if I can figure out what day they will be delivered, I can be home.
I could do the 'hold for pickup' thing, but that means having to go to the local post office, which is always a nightmare experience.

They are totally incompatant and slow.
Every time I go there to pick up a package, they can never even find it!!
I have to wait, and wait, while they shuffle about, in slow motion, searching for my package!!

So, due to the extreme frustration factor, hold for pick-up is NOT an option.

Does anyone else have problems ordering feeders in the summer?

Lets hear your stories :D

Actually, my post office and the usual mail lady are awesome. When I have live feeders delivered, she usually keeps the box up in front of the truck with her.

When I have them held for pick up, they call my cell phone before the post office is even open. They're always helpful, friendly and efficient when I need help or pick something up, too. After reading some of the horror stories, I know that I'm very lucky. :)

Wow! you may consider yourself lucky!!
I get that kind of treatment only from FedEx, and thats probably because the delivery guy is a friend of mine!

Any live parcel going to my post office, is almost surely a death sentence!!

I know how you feel with the "hold for pick up." The last time I did this, they shipped it out to the house anyway. I guess they couldn't read the words on the GIANT BRIGHT NEON STICKERS that say HOLD FOR PICKUP

My fault, I should have called them to let them know to watch out for it, but it got there a day earlier than expected. I was lucky because it was a bit overcast that day and only in the low 80's.

Bummer I just received my order of 500 supers, 500 zebra silkworm eggs and 150 reptiworms but they actually did a hold & call. Worked out good. I hate FedEx where i live soooo slow.

Superworms

I just received 500 superworms 2 days ago. It was high 80's that day. My post man brings them to my house and knocks. I only had 1 dead worm
I got them on Amazon through Rainbow Mealworms. I also ordered 250 Dubias from a different source and they arrive the same day, just fine.

Well, I decided to go ahead and do the 'hold for pick up' thing with my order of supers and silkies.

Got phone call from a man at the post office to inform me the package was there and ready for me to pic up.

So today, this morning, I go to the post office (after taking some Xanax), and the transaction went something like this.

Me: "Hello, I am here to pic up, I received a phone message from a post office clerk yesterday, and he said my package was ready to pic up".

Postal zombie: [long pause as she stares at me with blank expression] " what was his name?"

Me: I don't know, he didn't say, just told me my package was ready for me to come and pic it up"

Postal zombie: "Can I see your pic-up slip?"

Me: "I don't have a slip, this is a 'hold for pic-up' delivery"

Postal zombie: "I need the slip, when was delivery attempted?"

Me: "You don't understand, no delivery was attempted, this is a 'hold for pic-up"

Postal zombie [stares at me for several seconds, blank expression] "can I have your ID please?"

Me: I hand her my ID.

Postal zombie: stares at ID for several seconds, then turns away slowly and shuffles to a back room, out of sight as if wearing lead moon shoes. A few minutes later, she returns, empty handed, opens cabinets behind her, shuffles to another cabinet. "He was supposed to put it here", she tells me.

Enter, stage left; the carrier walks in to save the day. He opens another cabinet and produces my package, then hands it to the postal zombie. She holds it in her hands and slowly places it on the counter with curious hesitation, as if she isn't sure she should let me have it.

Me: "yes, that's it, do I need to sign for it"?

Postal zombie: "no".

Me: taking package; "thank you"

Total earth time of transaction: 14 minutes. Package was directly behind her in a cabinet the whole time.

Thank you Xanax

LOL! At least I didn't have to wait in line, got there early.

All my feeders were alive, except there was a hole in the silkie container, so I had to pic silkies off the packing peanuts

FedEx is yet to deliver a package to my address, even though I have the mandated 4" address numbers beside my door. Hence, I no longer order chams. The last two I ordered took me two days to get from office, plus the one day of shipping = 3 days in a box. This is even after I called and prewarned them, of incoming order and their past stupidity. Now my mailman is a completely different story. Robert has worked my address since I can remember. I have lived for 25 years and don't remember anyone else. He takes anything live and either puts it behind my bushes in the shade on cool days, or on really hot days will walk it around back and place in predetermined spot on back deck. He has even put somethings in my house for me, when I have ordered something really expensive. UPS always , I mean always, gets my deliveries right too. I think if UPS and USPS won't hire someone, then they go to work for Fedex. They will take anyone, apparently. This is why I try to only sell local also. No trust in FedEx!!!!

I don't even have to ID myself at the post office; I just tell them I am here to pick up a box of bugs; They literally go quickly to get the box. I think they are afraid of the contents! d
FedEx on the other hand, sucks. I swear I am the last house on the delivery list for the day. The office is about 20 minutes from my house I swear I could walk there and get my package faster!
