can some one sum this all up and tell me if it is better than reptisun 5.0 because if it is ill get one:D
and i just want to know all the info?
thanks

i dont have personal experience with these lights. i will probally try one eventually but i jsut bought two new lights. mabey you should get one and give us the results you get.

I have been talking to Todd and researching this on several sites, uvguideuk.co for one. The Arcadia bulbs seem to be superb for Cham, reefs, aquariums, and others. The uv stays more consist for a longer time, gives a better spectrum of light, and if I understand this correctly, replaces the need for a 6500k grow light for live plants.
I am considering for each cage:
Arcadia bulb
LED
basking bulb, perhaps mercury, haven't decided if that's overkill or not, still researching

Yes, The Arcadia bulbs give a wonderful full spectrum light and UV A & B.
It will grow plants and can be coupled with a good 5.5 - 6.8K LED or a Flo. Zoo Med Nature Sun if you need a boost of lumens for plants.

Anne, since you have a Solarmeter 6.2, you could use a Mercury Vapor because you would have the means (and experience) to measure it and adjust it to be at the correct distance (distance = strength of UV hitting the animal)
I had a chameleon person in Finland get a merc vapor and solarmeter just recently... but they ended up having to put the bulb far away! It was too potent at anything near close range.
So they ended up having to add another heating light closer, because the MV lamp had to be at such a great distance to keep the UV in the correct range.... the heat from the MV didn't make it to the animal. (Plus Finland is cold!)

You know, Arcadia Lights are not new.
Repeat, they are not new at all! LOL.:)
They have been used for decades in Europe.
Arcadia is a well known, well tested, and well respected brand. http://www.uvguide.co.uk/links.htm

But I forget....not everybody is as old like me!
Haha
So they do seem quite new to many beginning hobbyists and younger herpers.
And a healthy dose of skepticism is GOOD and understandable.

It is important to know >>They are NOT made in China.<<
Repeat...they are NOT made in China by some company that has never made a reptile lamp before.
They are made in Europe to very exacting standards.

It is sad so many people have been duped and animals harmed by cheap UV lamp lines being brought in from some 3rd world country (where labor is 6 cents an hour and quality control is unheard of) to undersell and make a quick buck.

But these Arcadia Bulbs are the real deal.
And unconditionally guaranteed by LightYourReptiles.com.
Cheers!

Todd

Thank you Todd for answering my questions, and the mv info is a great help, I will stick to a good old household for the time being but add the Arcadia/LED

I don't have personal experience ...yet, but from my reading they seem to hold their uv for twice as long as a reptisun. But know, until I am using them myself and can document my own findings I am going on data from others. But I really like what I am reading so far

so this one?

sucks cause i only have a 18'' hood :(
so i could get rid of my reptisun? and how often do i have to replace these?
thanks alot for explaining everyone:D

18" hood is ok.
This one for an 18" hood.

These ones should be replaced once a year... to be safe.
(If you don't have a Solarmeter 6.2 to check it out.)

It has been reported by some authorities that they have and used them much longer (!), but they had a Solarmeter 6.2 to check them ..... and could bring them in closer to the animal as time went by.
But I still have to go with the safest answer and say "replace once a year" if you are using the 6% D3 bulb for a Cham.

NOTE:
IF you have a Solarmeter 6.2 to check UV readings with, then you could go with the D3+ with 12% UV B and place it farther away.
Then check it with the Solarmeter every 3 mo. or so, and move it in closer.
That way you would get the most bang for your buck.
Since you could measure decay rate of the UV B and then adjust distance.... the D3+ bulb would be useful for 2 years or more in that scenario.

However, if you do not have a Solarmeter, then I can not sell anyone a D3+ 12% to use for a Chameleon.
It would be too Dangerous to use the more powerful D3 + 12% on a Chameleon without a Solarmeter 6.2 handy.

Another good reason to get a Solarmeter! Saves lots of money.:D

Thank you for your interest and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Todd
