SUGGESTIONS: I want to take him outside. Questions inside...

So I live in Florida and the weather is perfect for taking my little buddy outside. He has already been handled a lot by the previous owner and I've found that he's adapted to being here pretty well and he LOVES to sit on my head.

Anyway, I want to take him outside so he can enjoy the true sun.

How do you all bring yours outdoors? I don't have anything to put him in other than the large bucket I use for feeding time.

WHAT do you all use if you do NOT have an inclosure?

HOW long do you sit outside with him/her?

WHAT precautions should I take?

To add, I have a very large brush that stands very tall that is in a pot that I could move close to me in the yard. He also LOVES to climb high, guess that's why he's happy just sitting up on my noggin.

I live in Lake Worth, so we are close to one another! Cages are best and the safest way. That is how I house mine. A tall potted plant is fine and you maybe can intertwine some fake vine through it for places to climb if the plant does not have too many supportive branches. My area is loaded with Hawks, so be on the lookout always. Do NOT leave your chameleon outside alone. He may fall prey to a bird or run away. It has happened on here many times. If you are going to sit there right with him, fine. If you have to go in the house for a few minutes, take him in with you.

I'm sure he will enjoy the sun's rays I have two 2 meter high ficus pot plants about a meter apart. They are joined by 4 branches(so 4 layers for him to talk on), secured by cable ties on each plant. I have placed branches on certain points where the sun always shines on. I have to keep an eye on him though, he does eventually climb down and walk a bit on the grass. Ive caught him just sitting on the grass catching a tan hehe.

Hawks are always a risk, and right now they are nesting so are feeding growing chicks. A Sharp Shinned or Coopers hawk are bold enough to snatch your buddy right off your head or shoulders as would a raven or seagull.

I try to put them in cages outside. If you put them on a tree/bush, watch them all the time. They do go to the ground and move surprisingly far and fast.

It's easy to make a cheap outdoor cage with a roll of welded wire and some zip ties. You don't need a frame. Just be aware of what kind of predator could break into the cage and build accordingly.

Aaaaaaaaa! Carol, I'm so glad you mentioned the hawks. We have one that comes to the backyard often, I'm so glad you brought that up. I will be extra vigilant.
