So here is my issue I have to get my Cham to the vet to have his eye checked up on the only issue is my Cham does not like me to get anywhere near him without hissing bitting and totally freaking out. So I need some advise on how to get him from his cage to his carring crate. Everyone tells me not to stress him out but I dont think I can do this without stressing him out. I also would like to avoid just grabbing him with gloves on but I'm thinking that is my only option. Anyone have any experience with this issue or suggestions??

If you don't have time to let him come out on his own, then I would use the gloves. Don't procrastinate about it, open the door and try to get him on one hand by putting the other behind him and kinda coaxing him on the other hand. Have the crate ready to put him in and once in cover it to keep it dark and he will settle down for the ride and keep him covered.

Donna pretty much said it all. Just try to go Veryyyyyyy slowly when moving your hands into his enclosure, make sure he sees you. Put your hands under him and not above him, be confident!

When doing this, try to not wear any flashy colors too, to avoid threatening him. Also, when you will be putting him into some kind of crate, make sure to not get his tail jammed! :)

You are also right when you say that you probably have no choice but to stress him. Just tell yourself that if you are so worried about taking him out, then i can believe that you must not be stressing him out very often, so he should be able to cope with it! :) Also, stress for going to see a vet is sometimes needed, and when it comes to their health, i see this stress as a necessary stress, if not vital in some ways!

Good luck man and keep us updated when you get back from the vet!

If you got plenty of time before the appt. You can try the stick method and see if he will climb on it for you but I havent had much luck with that myself. I usually just coax and grab like you stated. Good luck at the vets offc.

Yeah I hear ya I just freak myself out more I could just see him flinging himself off my hand and then running around the room trying to hide on me. HEHE can you tell I stress myself out more then he will be I might need a doc visit myself

Great idea Jannb! :D

Yes i can see you being pretty stressed out. However, the idea Texas gave you is a very good one that can work pretty well sometimes! :)

Just try to be as confident as you can when you will be moving him. :) Everything should go fine! :) And when you will be with the vet, you can always ask him/her how to hold your chameleon. He/she may have some good tips for you! :)

Yay !!

So King Julians first visit to the Vet was great.. I was very confident and terrified at the same time to pick him up and put him in a carrier to take him to the vet for his visit. However it was awsome he not only didn't bit me but he crawled all over my shoulders and arms while we were at the vet. I now know that he will let me hold him with out bitting me. The visit was good he was a little low on Vitamin A and Calcium so he got a Vitamin A shot. He also had a small infection so I'm feeding him meds for that one. Other then that the vet just suggested a better UVB bulb and suggested that I stop feeding him crickets. King Julian was in great shape and everyone loved all the colors that he was changing.... Over all I was very happy that he is in good condition and looks healthy. :D

Did you go to the exotic bird and reptile in seattle?
I love those guys :D

LOL yes I did they are in bothell, WA I really like them they were very nice and helpful and the Vet I saw has been breeding chameleons for several years now so I felt confident in what he was telling me. Plus he was very good to King Julian..

Yeah I think they have a few locations... Here is a pick of his first visit he turned colors that I have never seen him change before so It was kind of neat.
