Success in Earning Trust!

So a couple weeks ago, we switched from letting the crickets free roam in the cage at feeding time to cup feeding in an effort to gain her trust. Well today, Charlie finally let me hold the cup while she eats! She usually just waits until we attach the cup to the cage, but she was lenient today! Maybe it’s because she was really hungry or because she liked the color of my shirt, but I’d like to think she’s starting to trust me!

Congratulations! it just takes baby steps. If your not careful eventually you may not be able to open the cage with out having a chameleon clamber up your arm.

That's me with lennon now. Can't do anything in or around his cage without him wanting to climb out on me. I think he just wants to go to his mini free range but still nice to think he likes me lol.

I think we’re still pretty far from that, but I’ll do my best to be prepared! Haha

How did you get your cham to be comfortable with your hands? Mine will eat off of a plate in my hand, but every time my actual hand gets close to her she will flee.

I wouldn’t say she’s necessarily comfortable with my hands. I was holding a Solo cup, and I honestly think she was just really hungry.

So I started off feeding her with free roam crickets. I’d just empty them in the cage and let her hunt for them. I switched to cup feeding though by just putting her crickets in a cup and putting the cup on a perch. I had to start off with laying the cup kind of sideways so the crickets would come out of the cup and she’d learn that that’s where they were coming from. Eventually she came to recognize that the cup=food. So the other day when it was food time, she was not near the food cup so I put the cup near her, and she was hungry enough to eat while I was holding the cup. Or maybe she was comfortable. I don’t know. Either way, it’s progress. It’s a slow process, but worth it.
