For the first time, my 4 month old, Jackson Chameleon, Tricky, ate out of my hand! This was probably due to him going all yesterday with just water, no food (we ran out of crickets), but I am still happy he went for it, even if it was just because he was so hungry. Last night, I found a cricket in my room that must have escaped from a while ago, as it was pretty large, seemed like it was nearly, if not already, fully grown. Both, Tricky and the bearded dragon were sleeping so I couldn't really feed it to either of them. So I just saved it until today. Tricky will be fed his normal amount today, but while I was doing some homework I remembered the cricket and went to go get it and offer it to him. And he came right over and took it from my hand! It was a large cricket but he was able to gobble it down. I will be sure to provide the appropriate sizes for the rest of his meal today.
I just wanted to share that with everyone here, and ask if any of you are having trouble or success with hand feeding your chameleons. lol WHen, Tricky caught it, he just got the leg and the cricket fell to the ground. But he climbed straight down to grab it, and was shaking it with his head like a dog. He just at the whole thing though, and it looks like he's climbing back up for some water and basking. You deserve it, Tricky!
Have any of you seen your chameleons shake their heads like a dog when they catch their prey? In this case it was the most mammalian I've ever seen. If he ever does it, it's usually just a sort of involuntary motion of most of the body, but this time it was just his head.
