Stupid Question

I'm in no way, shape, or for trying this, it's just a thought that came to my mind.

What are the risks of mating chameleons from the same clutch, or from different clutches but same parents?

I assume there's the obvious risk of malformations and whatnot, but is there anything else that could happen?

Is it even possible to mate clutch mates? Would the female be receptive?

it is possible but they do have a lot of problems, I've none of people do it before and the young died in a mater of weeks not to mention all the abnormal limbs an such they had

I totally agree. The babies would not be normal. I read on here where the whole clutch didn't have eyes and they all died.

I think this might be the thread you mean, Jann: https://www.chameleonforums.com/inbreeding-84252/

Not a stupid question at all, but as a general practice it's really not a good idea, it won't do the individual chameleons, their offspring or the species as a whole any good. But yes, she's be receptive and he'd do the deed, chameleons don't usually have such close contact in the wild that they have evolved to distinguish between siblings and strangers, as many other species have.

It would be about the same outcome of mating anything that shares the same genetic make up. Genetic mutation, weekend immune systems, brain damage. Same thing happens with all other animals. Defiantly wouldn't try it myself. Plus (and someone correct me if i'm wrong) i would think that the risk for MBD would be much hire and much more severe.
