Hi, my veiled is about 8 months old, ive only had him for 2 weeks. In this time he has been split up from the female and put in a new enclosure. I dont know if im doing something wrong with the enclosure or if he is just stressed from the move but since Ive had him hes never been green? Always a brown/grey colour, he was green when I bought him - even though he was in a tiny enclosure with a female? Im not sure how to use the how to ask for help sticky but -

hes in a 100 gallon flexarium - 30"(L) x 16(D) x 48" (H)
has 10.0 reptile uv bulb
has a basking spot about 90F
has loads of branches, vines and real and fake plants (ficus's)
is misted 3 times a day
moves around the enclosure alot
eats well - 3-5 insect everyday or every other day - locust/crickets
I use d3 once a week, calcium twice a week
I dont handle him but he feeds from my hand

Anyhting else you need to know just ask.

I just want to know why hes showing stressed colours all the time? Then I can correct it?!! Thanks.

Everything sounds perfect that you are doing. Cut your D3 down to 2X a month and up your Calcium to at least 5X a week and add some Herptivite once a month. He was always green because he was displaying for the female. I just separated a 5 month old male and female and ever since he went from brilliant to boring! Show him the female and see if he colors up again!

Hi Kay,

I am new to these forums too, so am sure that more people will be able to provide some more input for you soon. I have always been under the impression males should be kept solitary, so you would think being on his own is a good thing! I would also think that he should be eating more crickets than that. When we first had ours, she was about 6-8 months and she was eating 12-16 crickets a day. the only i would say is if you are worried, go to the vets. It is better to be proactive about this as they go downhill so quickly.

Thanks guys - so he wont be green all the time necessarily? I thought the colours he is showing is becaused he is stressed. Its good to know that he can be dull but healthy. I will up his calcium and crickets - how about locusts? Are they poisonous? And should I see him drink or assume hes drinking from the leaves after misting? x
