Stressed colors

When first wake up and look at him he's a light tan with nice colors. During most of the day he's a darkish green with a brown line horizontally. His tail broke two weeks ago. Could it be his tail? It actually doesn't make sense because he reverts to nice stressed free colors at night. What could the problem be? He's eating plenty.

I think you are misinterpreting what his colors mean. What species are we talking about and how old?

Most chams turn a bright lighter color while asleep. It isn't the same as their "relaxed" coloration. Its not really a reaction to something. It isn't the same as their "happy" coloration either.
