Still the smallest panther, Smidg

This is little Smidg, while she is shedding. She hatched in Jan 09 so she is 8 months old, just over a inch long, weighting in a 3.8 grams. My little angel.;) Also that is 1/4 mesh she is climbing on, for a size to compare. She wasn't very happy with the ruler stuck in her cage.

I had a female like that laurie, it took her just about 11 months to grow and in a 3.5 month period grew to be about a 55g female. She looks healthy otherwise!

If she were a dog, someone would be wanting to purchase her in hopes of breeding "teacup" panthers. But could you imagine the horror- as it would be likely, if she could breed, that her eggs would actually be full size. Which also has me wondering what will happen when her ovaries begin to develop. Keep us updated. Is it likely she will continue to grow, albeit slowly, until she reaches near-normal size?

Wow,,,I wonder if she has a thyroid issue going on . Another good name for a small animal like that would be Bonsai. :D

thanks for the photos of Smidge, Laurie.

as I said last night, she is in the best care, and I know you're doing a fantastic job with her.
a special cham taking care of by a special lady...no one can ask for more. :D

may she grow at her own pace and live a wonderful life...we all love you Smidg. ;)

What kind on person would ever want to breed her??? UGH!!!!

I hope she will be like Nic's and at some point start growing, but I have to tell you as she gets older I do worry about the ovaries starting to developing. She seems completely normal, just really small. I finally gave in and moved her to a 20 by 20 by 20 cage. She roams all over and seems very at home. I still have not been able to force myself to link her to the auto misters. She has a dripper but I mist her by hand. Guess I am an overprotective Mom.

Big smile! :D I knew I was making a good decision there, no matter how hard it was to come to. Thank you.

Any chance she could be a dwarf, as people sometimes are? (I just finished watching a documentary on the smallest girl in the world. 1'11" at 15 years old!)

Laurie, yours is an extreme case! shes soooo teeny! well i have a 9 month old who stopped growing once she hit the typical 3 month mark. She is nice and plump and has fat deposits, and is receptive but i am def not breeding her till she gets 2-3 times the size she is now. She is about 3-4 inches ill post some pix too if you want, dont want to steal your thread.

HeyIi am easy with it. Post the pictures, I would love to see her.

The rest of you guys, thanks, she really is special to me. Good to hear you think she is doing ok Kent.

All hope is not lost, Laurie. Just as some of you have chimed in, I, too, have a little girl (Nosy Be) that was the same way. She is the last of her clutch - I just thought she was a "runt" and for the longest time she just wouldn't grow, although very healthy otherwise. Finally, at about 10 months old, she went through a growth spurt and now at a year old, she is just a perfect size.

(...and it's okay to be a an overprotective mom....:))

special chams / special keepers

i have a lot of respect for anybody who has the dedication for those types of chams, i think it takes a special kind of keeper to do well with them, i am confident the two small females will be going into good hands. jury is still out on the third female, but should have a verdict shortly. ps i am assuming you got my recent email ? feel free to pm or call

The world has changed for my tiny baby. She is now the size of a normal adult. When she finally started to grow, she just took off. She is still wanting to eat morning til night. It is hard but I am keeping her food to a small amount. She doesn't need to get fat, she is just perfect. Every time I come near her cage she comes to the front with that little mouth open. If I offer not food she sort of goes away in disgust.

She will always be my baby. Even if I have taken in 2 more runts like she was. They are also doing great.:) Guess I am a runt queen, they don't get being a runt from my side of the family. lol

It's good to have news from her Laurie, thanks! Do you remember how old she was when she started growing?

I wonder if anyone ever had a normal chameleon that stayed at the size of a baby for all its life.

I do remember, just take a look at my post "I hate you all", I told the world she had started growing.

I do have a little girl, who arrived about the same size Smidg was when I got her, who isn't growing. But the male runt I have is turning into a fine male.:) Gotta love the little kids.

She is adorable. You must be very proud. I can`t believe what a tiny little girl she is, very petite. :D
