Arleen layed a clutch of eggs about 3 hrs ago. After 2 hrs she turned around and was facing upwards. As of 20 minutes ago, she is digging through the eggs she just laid. Should I leave her alone? They are fertile eggs!! First time with this and kind of freakin out. I have the egg bin ready, I just don't know what to do about the digging through the first clutch. I looked through previous threads and could not find any info on this. Please help a first timer!!

Are you sure she actually laid eggs? Perhaps she tested it and decided it wasnt deep enough? I'mjust guessing...

Leave her alone until she covers the hole and returns to her branches. Also, in case you are unaware, make sure she does not see you looking at her during this process. We like to hang towels or pillow cases around our females cages while they are laying to give them more privacy.

Yes there is eggs. I can't see how many, but she is throwing them around. This has been going on for at least 6 hrs.....

Maybe it's her way of saying 'take that! I won't be bred for your enjoyment!'?

On a more serious note, is this her first time laying? Sometimes hamsters or bunnies eat their babies if they feel over whelmed so perhaps that is her way of saying it?
