Personally we've been using the Flukers, which we can highly recommend. The 100watt puts out about the same heat as a 50-60 watt basking spot bulb. I don't know why but it is not as hot as a 100watt basking bulb so it is safe for chameleons year round. Our experience tells us that the quality of the UVB and UVA rays is exceptional.

We accept credit cards and PayPal. You may call 360-893-1843 to purchase or go to our web site's catalog page: http://www.chameleonsnorthwest.com/catalog.htm

Some background: We've been using the Flukers mercury vapor bulbs on our chameleons for the passed few months with great results. The babies' survival rate is nearly 100% (we lost 3 out of 60 (veileds and panthers) but those 3 hatched with obvious issues). Our baby chams are also growing at a better rate and coloring up nicely and eating like pigs. The babies show the most difference with the new lights but the adults have changed just a little bit, too. Our females' eggs are looking better and the girls are having an easier time laying and recovering from the ordeal. Our males are more active during the day.

Currently our complete cage kits include UVB tube bulbs and hoods, as well as basking spot heat lamps. Those are an excellent choice for chameleons and are used by most keepers. But it seems more and more keepers are opting for the single mercury vapor bulb instead.

The manufacturers claim the mercury vapor lights provide better quality UVB and UVA rays. I don't know. I can only share our experience. We currently use mercury vapor lights on most of our cages (all the babies get them) but we still employ the more traditional 2-light setup on our other cages.

My personal recommendation would be to give these mercury vapor bulbs a try on your baby cages if you're a breeder. We now raise our babies in screen cages with the 100 watt mercury vapor bulbs on top and are very happy with the results.

I a curious to hear about how you would go about using the flukers 100 watt mercury vapor UVB bulb in an 18x18x36 enclosure or in a 24x24x48 enclosure? Would this be overkill? I see you say you have been using this bulb and I am wondering how you have it setup and with what size enclosures?
