Something's really bugging Egon

Yesterday I redid the plants in Egon's cage (adult male panther chameleon). It had been sparse for some time and I finally got around to getting some plants potted and setting it all up.

I know there will be an adjustment period… there always is, but he seems upset by something. I caught him gaping and puffing up (which he rarely does normally). It does not seem to be venting because temps are the same as normal and he's going full on flared up and doing the shaking thing from time to time. He seems pretty mad, but at what I can't figure out. I did add a bright orange bromeliad for the first time. This could be it I guess.

My questions are:
1. Has anyone with bromeliads experienced this and did you need to remove the offensive plant?

2. Does he just need more time to get used to the new setup? At what point do I need to worry that the stress is going to do him harm?

Any advice is appreciated! I love my little guy and hate to see him upset. He's usually a very passive cham.

Below are pictures of the new setup. I think it's rather lovely myself, but I don't want him to be stressed.
