I personally put in a 75watt house bulb and raised it about 4 inches above the cage and now it's perfect.

So I'm trying to figure out a new lighting scheme. I have a leftover one of these ( http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog...c-bulbs/-/zoo-med-100-watt-halogen-heat-bulb/ ) from my beardie, and I'm wondering if it's what I can use for heat, assuming the wattage isn't too high (I'll have to go home and check which wattage mine is, but I know it's 100 or less)
And this is the light everyone recommends, I assume: http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog...por-bulbs/-/zoo-med-15-repti-sun-50-uvb-bulb/

Just use a regular house bulb like this I'm sure there is one around the house..
You need the UVB and the house bulb

I know its confusing been there
but its simple really just get aRepti Sun 5.0
ALong with a linear fixture depending on what length bulb you get
And the handy clamp lamp for that regular house bulb and there ya go for starters

Updates and photos
After wrestling with my internet connection and traveling to school to get these uploaded I'm finally able to post!!
Here's the enclosure currently. It's about 12"x9"x24". Pretty small for now, but then again so is Ridley.
Feeding cup is on the door (fed in the morning); a semi-successful drip cup on the top right corner. Anyway, the rest is self-explanatory.
In the meantime (as in, until I get a UVB light) I elevated the light off the cage another 3.5 inches (was the best elevation I could manage with what I could find at the drugstore). That isn't shown in this picture, though.
As for Ridley... I caught him on film, too. He got gradually more upset with me. lol
I apologize.. these photos were originally higher res than this, but Flickr downsized them when I uploaded them.
When I zoomed in on Ridley's back in the last picture it broke my heart. It looks so painful!
So this IS a burn, right? If it is, would I be able to use human products like Aloe Vera or Neosporin on it? I feel so bad for him and hope that I could apply something soothing...
Let me know what you think. Hopefully elevating the light will at least help a little bit for awhile...

Wow, really? This is the best news I've heard all day!
I'm so glad I don't have to buy another expensive bulb! What wattage would be best for the standard bulb? (if I set it on top of the enclosure)Thank you so much EVERYONE for your help!! (and visual aids, lol)

Try 60 watt first....if that's too hot you might need to go to 40. He's young and I would not bask him over 88 or 89. Jann

100W powersun is WAY too much for a small animal. I woudln't get a reptiglo - get a zoomed reptisun, much better bulb.

As for basking lamps, I've been pretty happy with the Philips Halogena' brand 60W FLOOD Reflector style lamps. They are sold at places like Home Depot etc. Common household lamps work fine too, but if you want to try something that puts out a bit whiter/brighter light per watt without spending too much money, these halogen floods run about ~$5 and are sometimes found in a 3-pack at a better price than singles. I prefer a flood over spot since it gives me a bit more of a gradient effect. Mine are placed at about ~10" away from the basking spot. As was mentioned, stick your hand there and it should feel warm, not too hot. A low-cost IR temp gun is a handy way to check the chameleon's skin temp after basking a while.

So higher-wattage bulbs are better with larger cages, I assume. That's what it sounds like. I didn't know wattage affected heat as well as brightness. I've definitely seen the difference in brightness.

I want to see if the burns fade, and if Ridley starts basking again. He seemed to be more willing to be in the light, and actually seemed slightly offended that I didn't have crickets waiting for him when he woke up, lol.
I'll see how he fares. If it doesn't improve too much I'll definitely switch the lighting sooner than later.
