solortech uvb meter

Hoj

Friendly Grasshopper
so i have been playing with the solortech 6.2 uvb meter, loaned to me by a very kind and generous member.;) and i am just curious as to what a good number is to achieve. i seem to remember that about 20 was good but cant be sure.
obviously the closer you are to the bulb the higher so i am refering to the number at the chams uvb basking site.
any help or info would be great
thanks

Hi Hoj,
according to what I have researched, and what Todd and I have talked about. optimum for a linear bulb is between 30 to 35.

Its cool to take it outside at different times during the day to get readings on real sun

did you take a reading inside the cage and outside to see the difference your mesh makes? if it is like mine, it will surprise you!

hope it helps, anne

I've been itching to know how much uvb is getting to my cham.. Just can't afford a meter right now. They sound useful for paranoid people like myself. haha.

Your kind friend changes her bulbs when they get to 25, above that is ok for me. That is measured straight down 12 inches inside the cage. Make sure you hold the meter straight up. If you point it away from the light the readings are not accurate. I have found I can put new bulbs in 2 cages side by side and the lights will degrade at different rates. I have no idea why. Fun little thing to play with isn't it?
