Solid Cage designs

ive seen chams kept in solid cages with many vents on the bottom. Ill try and find the pic of it and post it. I am wondering because im nervous abt the whole open screen thing since the temp in my home can vary. id much rather have a set temp with a thermostat in a solid cage (with good venting).
Any insight is great guys, thanks

ps cant find the solid cage but it was basically a huge cage with vents across the bottom all the way across.

What range of house temps are we talking about? Where do you live? Remember, chams are arboreal which means they are exposed to temp fluctuations in their natural habitat and they can tolerate change especially from day to night. You will need to provide a gradient of temps throughout the cage and at least a 10 degree drop in temp every night anyway. Many many keepers use screen cages without temp trouble. If your cham can bask to raise its body temp every day to digest its food correctly and get enough UV I wouldn't worry all that much if the house temps are OK for the people. Screen cages can be harder to keep humid enough so many of us drape plastic sheeting on cage sides or back to help maintain it. That can help with the heat too.

i cant have a screen cage with plastic draped, my mom wants it to look neat and furnashed.
i was thinking do a solid enclosure with http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...Id=-1&keyword=vent&storeId=10051#.UIngl8WjZ0o across the front bottom and across the top back. allowing push pull airflow like a computer case. would this be sufficient?

Honestly, I don't recommend it. That will not provide enough airflow for the chameleon and will eventually make it sick.

If you want it to look like a piece of furniture, you should look for an old cabinet on craigslist or go buy one that has at least 3 sides with glass and what you can do is remove the glass and replace it with screen. Shouldn't be too hard and if you find a good deal, it could even be cheaper than a cage.
