Here is my Panther Chemeleon Snickers. I particularly like the first one. I call that Boyoyoy tail.

I have one of those carnivorous plants like the one he's sat on, I take it those are safe then? The chams never fall down the "kill hole" ? Looks like yours is getting ready to spew aswell! Pretty soon it'll chuck out enough fine fluffy stuff to fill a pillow lol

I figured it was only a matter of time before some one questioned the plants I chose in my tank. My tank consist of 80% Bromeliads. The reason I chose them because they are non toxic. I have read that Chameleons will some times eat the plants in the cage. I have actually seen my Chameleon do this, which is why I choose non toxic plants. Also if you let crickets roam around your tank they will also feed on your plants, resulting in a toxic cricket as shown in the picture you can see where the cricket fed himself on my Bromeliad.

I cant say that all the species of bromeliads are non toxic as there is something around 3,170 species of bromeliads, some even grow fruit such as the pineapple. Sure some are carnivorous, such as the Tank bromliads. Tank bromeliads (as the water storing species are often called) rely less heavily on their roots for nourishment and are more often found as epiphytes (Meaning they grow on other trees but aren't parasitic to the tree). This central cup stores water, and also collects whatever leaf litter and insects happen to land in it. So your chameleon isn't going to be consumed if it happens to find itself in the central cup, and insect how ever may drown in the central cup and be consumed as the central cup is where some bromeliads take in nutrients. How ever the central cup can also store bacteria and this is one reason you may not want Tank bromeliads in your terrarium, just in case your Chameleon decides to drink from it, Mine has two other fresh water sources to drink from and has never tasted this water, that I know of... Also some frogs and breeders of frogs use the bromeliads for breeding as you can see in the pictures frogs hang out in bromeliads.

So there you have it, my rant on bromeliads and why I use them in my terrarium.
