Sneezes!!

Think I'm worthy of a freak out for this... Rocco, veiled cham about five months.old, has just started sneezing..
Its not regular but its regular to think what the hell !.like once a day.
So now I'm worried about URI's :-(
he's in a wooden viv with glass doors and half the back is mesh screen and he has a fan that goes on a couple of hours a day to get the air flow goin..
He does this even when I'm not near him..
Do chams just occasionally sneeze or am I due my first vet visit? Eek!

We took our guy to the vets last month for a check up, he used to sneeze aswell, the vet said that it COULD have been him clearing his nostrils from water or excess calcium. But she checked for a uri anyway, and thankfully he was fine, if in doubt check it out

It sounds like the early stages of an RI. Listen to your gut instinct. I would take him to the vet to get on some anti-biotic. Don't wait, by that point he will be showing multiple symptoms and it will be that much harder to fight. I wish you and your little guy well.

Keep us updated and let us know how the vet visit goes.

I think the more usual symptoms of a URI are gaping and excess saliva. Was the sound more like a short, sharp 'PFFT'? They do that to a) clean their nostrils like already suggested and, b) when you get too close or do something they don't like. It's kind of like a snort of disgust.

HAHAH snort of disgust Wow if it is that then my boy really hates me. He does it to me whenever i mist his cage

Are you hearing this during the day or are you hearing this right around nightfall/after lights out?

If it's during the day, I'd be more inclined to think it's most likely a snort...if it's around nightfall/after lights out, I'd be more inclined to think it's an indicator of a respiratory infection.

The reason I say that is they are great at hiding illness and so some symptoms only manifest at times we wouldn't normally be looking at them. If they are doing it once a day when you're standing there looking at them? I sort of think it's not illness related.

That said, a visit to the vet is always the best idea.

I have never had sneezes as a part of a uri. sadly i had had a few uri's to deal with. Just give it a few days and see if it doesn't stop. For now, don't panic. Let us know how it is going.

I haven't heard it anymore but iv booked him in thisafternoon at the vets just for a full check up anyway!
He's nearing about five months and he's never had a vet visit so purely for my peace of mind and to kno I'm on the right track I thought it was for the best!.. He's such a happy little guy can't wait to see what the vet thinks of him :-D

Well.. Not sure the vet had even half a clue.. But apparently he deals with exotic.
Couldn't see any obvious sign of infection but gave me antibiotics for him anyway.. So, hmm lol

That's exactly what my cham does. I was putting a worm on a leaf and he did that like 5 minutes ago. He also does it sometimes when I use calcium or after I spray. He's spoiled and acts like it too
