Snake chokes on its own tail

Reggie, a 3ft kingsnake, almost had to be put down when it mistook its tail for another snake and took a bite, but found itself unable to regurgitate the tail due to its backward-facing teeth.....

Luckily the owner saw that the snake had taken its own tail for a meal and rushed him to Vet Rob Reynolds at Seers Croft Veterinary Surgery, for help, who immediately dislocated its jaw Photo: PICTURE PARTNERSHIP

Maybe wasnt fed enough? Funny you say that though, so many keepers like to claim ,
'my snake is so intelligent, he likes to...etc'. I dont give any reptile the benefit of that kind of intelligence, purely instinctive.
Something smells like food, they're hungry, they eat it.
Probly keeper error at fault, Id put money on it! :)

if that is a banded california kingsnake, which it looks like, it looks alot like mine, they are notorious for having an AMAZING feeding responce. Some in captivity are fed 2 or 3 times a week! They tend to strike anything in their cage so i would imagine it happens more often than is reported and people never catch it. You really wouldnt need to take that to a vet, a little bit of wiskey or mouthwash with alcohal and it would have freed itself more than likely

Poooor silly thing lol. Reminds me of my roommate's baby corn snake. The little thing has confused herself with a pinkie mouse more times than is normal. She'll be sitting there with a pinkie and try to figure out where the head is and end up trying to wrap her jaws around her middle lol.

Silly snakes!
