Looking to buy fruit flies. I google searched and found a cheap (i think) fruit fly kit of 1 fruit fly culture and 8 ready to go cups for $25 shipped from a site called "snailtail". Has anyone purchased anything from this place?? Is $25 too much?

Also what type of fruit fly is best for baby chameleons?

Hydei works for most species. They take a bit longer to get going then melanogaster and are bigger.

Well I've never personally bought this kit but if I'm understanding it correctly, you will be sent one active colony and cups in order to create more once the one that is there is producing actively. If you're just getting prepared for when eggs hatch, I think it's a fun way to go, you can create your own colonies so you get to see the progress. The question is, do you need fruit flies now, or are you just getting ready?

Oh, and as Carl said, usually Hydei are used, unless you have a smaller species of chameleon neonate you're needing to feed

Hydei, thanks I'll buy those then. :) They'll be panther babies (if any hatch!) They've been incubating for 6 months now. I candle lit them and they seem to still have a while to go. Most of them have a small dark layer at the bottom of the egg. I figured the best way was to create my own cultures, hoping it's not very hard.

Yes the kit is 1 active culture of flies plus 8 ready to go cups, I'm guessing I don't have to do anything to the cups, they'll have the food in them. Is this a good way to go?
