Snails, lung worms and chameleons.

What are the risks when feeding snails to chameleons. I haven't fed any to Monty, nor any slugs, but I heard something on the radio about dogs getting lung worms from snails, and wondered if chameleons can get them too? Anyone have any experience of this, or any input?

I seen somthing about this on tv but it was about dogs swallowing snails and slugs as they carry lung worms, they said it can be fatal to a dog so i suppose it would do the same to a cham..

Yeah, I think it's a new campaign here in the UK. Got me worried about feeding them now though!

Jacksons in particular seem to relish slugs and snails, and I have some that I hope to breed, but not if it poses the slightest risk to Monty. He's far too precious!

I have seen a paper about lungworms in some chameleon species...

Hmmm... So could breeding the snails remove the lungworms from a colony(only in the newborn young)?

I've had no trouble feeding small home-grown snails to my chameleons.

Glad you've had no issues Sandra. I havnt fed any off yet but I was second thinking feeding them
