My senegal chameleon has been sleeping from 6:30-7pm to about 1pm, so all through the night and into the afternoon. I am absolutly unsure of why shes doing this. Its just been for the last couple of days. She appears to be completely healthly, everything is as it should be. I purchased her about 3 weeks ago now.
The only question i guess i have is could the weather effect her even though she isen't outside? I live in florida and recently its gotten into the 50's-60's at night and i've been keeping a heater on in the room with her to keep it warmer. but can she still sense that its cold out and is that why she could be hiding?

do you have any lights on?
any lights near her during dark hours?

why do yu have a heater on, chams can take temp drops to 50ish and be fine.

I have a UVB tube light thats 5.0 and a regular light bulb thats 40 watts for heat in a dome fixture above her cage. I recently had a 60 watt bulb in there but she kept opening her mouth and someone told me she was too hot so i dropped the watts and she hasen't done that again.
Well i have a heater on one because i live in the garage at my folks house and two cause i'm cold and it was like 58 in my room last night. I thought it couldn't drop under 60 degrees? I have a senegal.

oh and no lights on during the night time, only during basking hour which i usually do 8am to 8pm. i actually cover just the front of the mesh cage at night when i'm watching tv till about 10pm.

as far as im aware, senegals can handle the temp drops. so if you are cold, just get yourself a space heater or more blankets, :D but she doesnt need it.

are you sure shes sleeping till 1 pm?

what tiem do you turn her lights on?

is it a set schedule, like on at 7 am, off at 7 pm, no changes?

can you fill out the help form so I can see what else you have JIC?

Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? They said not to at all for the first month. but i handled her a couple of times when rearranging the cage to let her out in the sun. so like 2 or 3 times.
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? crickets, mealworms, wax worms, fruit flies and i have bbflies on order and regular house fly pupae. I feed the crickets and flies freely in the cage and i give the worms to her in a sunny d death trap like device. I gutload with veggies (carrots zuccnni squash etc) and cricket calcium.
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? Reptimin calcium dusted on mostly the crickets and meal worms, i've only done this twice since i've had her though.
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? i use a dripping system for about 15mins in the morning and 15 mins in the afternoon around 2pm. just a dixie cup with a hole in it. i mist everyfew hours when the cage gets dry and i mist for about a good 2 or 3 minutes. I see she drink when i put the dixie cup on the top of the cage.
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? going to the vet may 6th and she has reg poops. they are long and brown and have a bit of white at the end.
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you. bad pet store owner. thats all i know.

Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? 5.0 Uvb tube light and a reg house bulb 40 watts in a dome fixture. from 8am to 8pm and they are on a timer that swtiches them on and off. no lights at night.
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? the floor is 70 and the top is 80-85. Lowest overnight temp? was last night 58 degrees. How do you measure these temps? with a digital with a probe.

Location - Where are you geographically located? Florida

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.
she's not exactly sleeping as much as she is just hiding. eyes are open and alert. color is good and grips good to. ( had to test  ) i'm just a worried mom i guess.

oh i forgot in humidity to write that i have a hygrometer!!!! silly me

So shes not actually sleeping????

do her eyes stay open from the time lights come on, to roughly the time lights go off?

yes her eyes remain open. and when i first got her she was dark in color which everyone told meant high stress and now shes a pretty green color but just chooses to hide all day. The only reason its really got me concerned is i'm not sure shes eating enough because she chooses to hide constantly.

ok. shes fine.
shes a senegal, they are very shy chams. they like to hide.
hiding makes them feel safe.

if bugs keep disappearing, and she knows where her bug cup is.. shell eat what she wants.

as long as shes pooping, eating, eating and drinking.. hiding isnt a symptom.

ya omg im sorry im just a worried mom now. i have a ton of animals and i've never met one so complicated. thank you!!!
