Sled dog rally

Me and the OH went to a sled dog rally over the weekend. We had never been to one, but have decided we would like to get a dog in the next year or so, and have settled on an Alaskan Malamute. We are doing all our research, meeting people who have them as pets, and also different breeders and meeting their dogs too. We know all the good points and bad points with this breed, and still loved them!

Anyway, one of the things the OH would like to do with a puppy we get is start training (when they are old enough) to sled race, so we went to a local rally. Absolutely amazing and the dogs LOVED it (was both huskies and malamutes racing). So I thought I would share some pictures with you all! Enjoy!

Sounds like fun. EVERY dog needs a job to do to make them a happy dog.

Unless you are a dachshund, then sleeping in front of the wood stove is considered "work"

It was brilliant! We took loads of pictures but for some reason it won't let me upload most of them. The noise was immense, but you could see how excited the dogs got, especially when they were tied to the rigs and ready to go! I swear they had smiles on their faces when they were racing! Amazing dogs and I can't wait to get one.

It's amazing how dogs love doing the job they were bred to do, and how they know what it is even if they've never done it before. I have a sheltie that hasn't had a chance to do any herding yet, but the other day we came upon a group of ducks on a walk and she went straight into that low hunched herding position and was just locked on those ducks. She's never gone into that pose before, so it was amazing to see how a group of farm animals sends her right back to what she was bred to do!

Malamutes are pretty great dogs, so congrats on deciding to get one Sounds like you'll have a lot of fun with one.
