Size of egg bin??

What are the dimensions you should use for the egg laying bin, and also what kind of sand is the best? I know there is probably no short answer for this, but what are a couple of the tell tell signs when can you tell if your female is ready to lay eggs?

I believe the smallest people use is 8'' wide by 12'' deep.

The bin should be big enough to put her in with a few inches on all sides including above her. No more than 10-12 inches deep.

One of the biggest signs is when the female stops eating or starts to roam around the bottom of the enclosure.
