I will soon be getting a young veiled and I'm looking at Reptibreeze. I know everyone says to start out small, however what harm would it be to just go straight for the 24x24x48? The only reason I've heard is for hunting purposes, however I plan to either hand feed, or make a cricket cup. Thoughts?

if you start out with a big cage you wont have to upgrade later and wont have to stress him out on a big environment change. chameleons get used to their environments and feel safe. just my 2 cents. also, i dont recall anyone saying to start off small unless its a small baby, could be wrong though.

I recommend starting with a smaller cage so he want have a problem finding his food and you will have a travel size cage for vet visits and so forth. I searched all over the internet to find a good price on the Zoo Med open air cage and the cheapest one I found was on petmountain.com. I got the 24"x24"x48" and their price was $93.99 with free shipping. If you sign up with your email address they email you a coupon code for 10% off your order. With that my order came to $84.59. As brownie64 said you can just buy the large cage and use something (a crate, plywood, stiff plastic) to block a portion of the cage and make it the size you require. Better than buying multiple cages for sure and you can make it bigger as your Cham grows.
