Here are the latest pics of my girl. recovered nicely, shed a bit, & the Dino Fuel has made her colors soooooo nice. I love the sky blue, mint green & orange.
Her casque is chubby, which means she's eating well! Chameleons like storing fat in their casques/head region (it's like the cham version of thighs, I suppose). But they always look way thinner after laying, that's for sure.
I do think she had/has some MBD. The ppl at the pet store think the guy who had her before did not have any UVB bulb. Plus she doesn't/can't close her mouth all the way. She can be a bit slow at times, ie turning around to go back the way she came. But now she gets her calcium & a uvb bulb & sunlight when it's warm. She is doing well. much stronger & active.
I guess i wouldn't say she was unsteady, more that she sometimes doesn't know where to put her feet & will step on another leg, then get mad when she can't move the one she is standing on...lol
She reaches a bit with her feet sometimes like she can't find anything to grab.
That sounds pretty typical of MBD, they confuse their own limbs as branches, as if they can't feel their own feet grabbing themselves. I am not an expert on MBD by any means, but I don't know if there's more you can do. You can halt MBD but not reverse the effects of it (like the physical signs), I think all you can do is keep supplementing really well with calcium and see if she slowly starts to regain proper motor function of her limbs, but it may never be perfect.
You might have to be creative with her cage. Make sure the pathways are comfortable to use and easy to grasp to compensate.
I'm sure I over-compensate for her...
I even got a wooden parrot ladder so she can get back to her branches easily.
I figure since she had a rough start, I can make her present & future better. I seem to adopt the used & abused, even if I con't intend to.
Any advice is appreciated.
