Simba's custom made enclosure!

So as some of you know, I'm relocating Simba to the living room:D

Here's where his enclosure will end up (TV being moved obviously to leave space behind open)

OH and I have decided to use the unit which his enclosure sits on now as a base ;)

Floor space will be approx 37" x 24".

Overall height will be around 80" (yes I'll need a set of ladders to put the lights on top LOL!) Hoping to get a hood which holds the UV light and the basking bulb.

So less the base which is 29" high, his living space
will be 37"x24"x30" approx. So a fair bit of space there for him there ;)

The back will be solid wood with a waterproof foliage image stuck to it. Top, sides and front will be wooden frames with mesh. All waterproofed of course!

For drainage, will get a plastic board to sit on the frame of the sides and back. Hole in the middle and hole in the 'table top' with some sort of funnel going from the plastic down into a tube which will run into the base below and into the water butt ;) Weight of plants will push plastic down a little in the middle to ensure excess water goes where it should go :)

Going to bring the doors on the base forward and put wood effect sticky back plastic on the glass so you can't see inside the unit.

Will have the drainage water butt in there, as well as all of his 'stuff'; feeders, equipment etc. and probs the reservoir for the MistKing I'm hoping to get for him.

So our lights don't disturb him on a night, going to put a rail at the very top of the wall, to bring a curtain right across the front of the enclosure, making it nice and dark for him in there.

Going to take a bit of time to put together I reckon, but hubby well up for a bit of DIY so bring it on!!! LOL

Will keep you posted on progress of course ;)

Hi Kat! You have some great ideas. The only think I can think of is the ones here that use cages say 48 inchs high for an adult panther or veiled.

BTW How's Simba's eyes going?

Thanks jann x

So do u mean his living space should be higher?

I might get another 6" but then I need to allow for the light hood before it hits the ceiling lol

Will make it as big as I can ;) x

Kat! That is the perfect place to relocate Simba too! Sounds wonderful! I wish I had a space like that do do something similar! Keep us posted with pics of the progress too!:D

Thanks Tiff ;)

Yeah I will do, don't worry.

Just having a look for light hoods n mesh etc, work out where I can get everything from.

Can't wait to get started!! :D

Have to say, today is a brill day! Simba ate 1 morio, 3 locusts and a silk, all with calci plus on :D:D:D

And we won £100 on a lottery scratchcard!! :D

BTW How's Simba's eyes going?

Sorry Jann, missed this

He's great now thanks. Eyes more or less back to normal. Bit of baggy skin every now and again, but much better thanks.

He did stop eating and only seemes to be eating every 1.5-2 weeks at the moment.

Maybe he'll start eating more, maybe not. Offering food every Wed and at the weekend. Ate today as I have mentioned in above post so pleased about that.

Read its normal for adults to go a few days between feedings.

Dusting with calci only on Wed and Repashy Calc Plus with D3 and Vit A at the weekends.

I'm so excited about his enclosure!!! I can't wait to get started.

After doing another measure around I reckon I can get his living space to 56" high, but only allows about 8" at the top for the light hood to go on. Ladder required!! LOL

Watch this space! :D

Congrats on the win!:D I think I have some links to places that sell mesh somewhere when I looked into it myself before. So glad he ate again for you! After all that he prob won't need feeding for another couple of weeks, lol!

Here you go

I managed to get some aluminium fly screen from a local 'olde worlde' ironmongers, so it's also worth seeing if any local hardware store stock it or could get it for you.

Thanks for that Tiff, that's brill!!

Had a look on the mesh co just before there.

3m of the stuff for £20!!!
Will def look round for a bargain tho!! LOL

Found the combo hood I need too. Holds the UV tube and the basking bulb :)
