Questions
1) whats the best media to use with SIM? You can use pretty much any water retaining substrate like perlite, vermiculite, superhatch, hatchrite or even just water. My personal favorite is a cellulose sponge material I am currently testing. Hatched some Varanus tristis, 2 clutches of hognose snakes, and dozens of geckos.
2) How much media do you need or how full do you fill the SIM? On the SIM container there is a fill line.
3) How much water do you add to the media? There is no set ammount but a 50/50 ratio or around that worked in all trials and works for everything I have incubated. The thing is, you do not need to worry too much about the ratio because the eggs are not sitting in the substrate.
4) How do you add water to the Sim? If you set up your SIM container properly from the start, you should never need to add water. However, if you did need to add water, you can do so very easily by just spilling water through the grid in an area where there are no eggs.
5) Do you need to poke holes in the top of the SIM for ventilation?
I always suggest adding holes to the lid. It will ensure the eggs are getting oxygen and it also keeps the pressure even between the container and the outside environment.
Hope this helps.
