SIM Incubation Container

saw these containers for sale at a show over the Summer and they had a video presentation of it. They seem to work really well, i picked up a few, but i have no eggs so far so need for me to use them yet. not planning on breeding anything til Spring.

I've been really curious about this method for the past couple of years also. Seems like it would be excellent especially for larger lizards, but I haven't tried because I don't have a full understanding of what is involved yet. Didn't know someone made a product commercially for it. I am going to have to try this in the upcoming year.

Thanks for the link!

I saw those over the summer but I was afraid to use one for my eggs. Please keep us updated Chad. I'd like to know if they are a viable alternative to the tried and true glad container method.

I like the look and concept. Until I know someone (Chad will do :D) who has done it I am a coward to take the chance.

They look great! One nice thing about them is that if you have an egg mold over then it is not really able to spread around via the substrate and get onto the other eggs if you don’t look at them too often.

The only real down side I think would be the somewhat of insulation/buffer that the direct contact/burying to the medium gives, for this reason I am only using the 3 SIMS that I have inside one of our incubators. I still have many others in the trusty closet.

I am pretty sure they are only meant to be used in an incubator due to their design, not sure that they would work well if used as a stand alone container left on a shelf.

Hello everyone.
My name is Gregg Madden. I am the co-designer and co-producer of the SIM incubation container.

First I want to say thanks for the positive comments about the product. It went through lots of testing on a few species before we released it to the public for sale.

A friend of mine made me aware of the thread on this site. I figured I would join up to help answer a few questions and to give any info needed on its use and results.

Chad, please keep us updated on your experience using the SIM for cham eggs. Any info and data you can collect will be great and pictures are always a huge plus.

I did notice that someone posted a comment about them having to go into an incubator. They do not need to go into an incubator for all species. There have been literally dozens of rhacs hatched in the SIM out of the incubator at room temperature along with cornsnakes, cave geckos and a few other species that require lower incubation temps. They have proven to be very effective as a stand alone container left on a shelf.

The list of species that hatch on this container is growing every day. Cobras to cornsnakes and monitors to pictus geckos as well as turts and torts. I would love to post some pics of some chams hatching in the SIM on our website.

Thanks again for the nice comments and thanks Chad, for the update so far... Hope you hatch tons...

Gregg

When the time comes I will take some pictures for you. I expected to see you at Daytona in Aug but I did not see your booth, did you end up not going?

I am going to be incubating half of my knob tail eggs in a SIM the first half of this season too; if they preform how I hope I will change everything over for the second half.

While I am thinking about it I am going to order another right now.

I havent bred in years but am allways interested in new icubation tecniques. These seem like an interesting idea.

Hey Chad,
Unfortunately, we were unable to make it to Daytona this past August. We will be attending the show this August though.

How much longer till those Cham eggs hatch???

Questions
1) whats the best media to use with SIM?
2) How much media do you need or how full do you fill the SIM?
3) How much water do you add to the media?
4) How do you add water to the Sim?
5) Do you need to poke holes in the top of the SIM for ventilation?
